Assessment and Certification Centers

Each campus has a comprehensive assessment and certification center offering a full range of services during the day and evening. Limited services are available at other locations as well. One or more of the College’s centers are authorized testing sites for ACT, SAT, LaserGrade, VUE and Prometric. For complete and current assessment information visit the assessment and certification Web page.

College Placement Testing for Non–Credit Programs

Florida Coast Career Tech’s assessment and certification centers administer placement testing for those individuals entering adult education programs: Polytechnic Academy, Adult Basic Education (ABE), Pathways High School Completion, and Adult High School (AHS). Campus assessment and certification centers also administer the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) required of all students exiting workforce certificate programs of 450 hours and above.

Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE)

Assessment and certification centers administer the state mandated TABE test to those students enrolled in workforce certificate programs of 450 or more contact hours. Usually students take the test within the first six weeks of enrollment, however, some programs require TABE testing prior to program entry. The TABE is also a state requirement for those enrolling in selected adult education programs.

Workforce certificate program students may exempt the TABE through several methods:

  • Hold an A.A.S. or higher degree from an accredited college, community college or university.
  • Score 440 or higher on the SAT verbal or critical reading test and 440 or higher on the mathematics test within the last two years.
  • Within the last two years, meet the state–level requirements on the Accuplacer College Placement Test (CPT) of 83 on the reading comprehension test, 83 on the sentence skills test, and 72 on the elementary algebra subtest.
  • Score 17 or higher on the ACT English, 19 or higher on the ACT mathematics and 18 or higher on the ACT reading within the last two years.

GED® Test

The GED® test is a battery of five tests administered at Downtown, North and South Campuses, and Cecil Center North, on a regularly scheduled basis to individuals who are at least 18 years of age (individuals who are 16 or 17 can test with an age waiver from the school board), out of school, citizens of the United States, resident aliens and Florida residents.  The assessment is administered for a minimal fee by appointment.
